I know there are companies out there that have stellar integrations between their MRO and IT shops and bless you for that! However, sadly you're the except and not the rule.

It is no wonder why so many customers struggle to get value out of their enterprise MRO software when maintenance and IT are so siloed or distant from each other. Somehow software seems to be viewed as a parallel obligation. You simply cannot do Enterprise Asset Management, Asset Performance Management, or Reliability Centered Maintenance without a modern enterprise maintenance software like Maximo. The fact that Maximo* isn’t addressed as an integral part of maintenance and repair operations (MRO) reveals the mindset that maintenance is somehow still a very analog process. So, this was very disappointing but also very telling. In fact, in my entire library I cannot remember a time when software was presented as integrated part of maintenance instead of as just an add-on. It is always its own little chapter set off to the last 3rd of the book and rarely referenced. They belong together in the same sandwich, err. You see, in my mind, Maintenance and Maximo are like Peanut Butter and Jelly.

Neither book had the definition for Data Governance or SDLC. My favorite places to look are the Uptime Elements Dictionary and the Professionals Guide to Maintenance and Reliability Terminology (my reviews of both linked). I wanted to include the definitions for both in my presentation.
